Remodeling in Winchester, MA

Winchester is about fifteen minutes from our Wakefield base, past Stoneham and the Fells. Many of the town's homes are older and well built, and plenty of owners would rather update them carefully than gut them. That's the kind of work we like: a new kitchen or bath that works for the way you live, inside a house whose trim, stairs and proportions still look the way they should.

For Winchester homes we remodel kitchens and bathrooms, paint interiors and exteriors, and repair plaster or install drywall, and we help you choose finishes that suit the age of the house. Every project starts with a free estimate, a written price and a schedule. Any changes are priced before the work happens, and the same crew shows up each day, so you always know who is in your house.

Turn-of-the-century houses and a town that protects them

The Wedgemere Historic District, listed on the National Register in 1989, is one of the town's largest surviving 19th-century subdivisions, with houses built roughly between 1890 and 1920 in the Queen Anne, Shingle, Colonial Revival and Tudor Revival styles. Winchester's demolition delay bylaw has the Historical Commission review applications to demolish structures built before 1941, with the power to delay a demolition permit for up to 12 months.

For homeowners, that's a strong reason to renovate rather than replace. An interior kitchen or bath remodel isn't a demolition, but if your plans involve removing a large part of an older structure, raise it with the town early. In houses of this age, the details that matter are plaster, original millwork and exterior trim, and how new work sits next to them.

Permits in Winchester

Winchester's Building Department issues building permits online and also enforces the town's zoning bylaw. Its building, plumbing and gas, and electrical inspectors are in the office only from 8 to 9 in the morning, and the town notes their lines have no voicemail. Plumbing, gas and electrical permits are pulled by the licensed trades. We explain what your project needs at the estimate and handle the timing.

Reviews From Our Satisfied Clients

Marcio scheduled a visit to my home and we went through the renovation I was looking to have done in our master bathroom. After providing us the final estimate we scheduled demo and his team arrived promptly to start their work. They did a good job covering the bedroom items to avoid dust which helped quite a bit. During construction Marcio kept me informed the entire time and we made a couple minor changes to the scope of work without any issues… Overall, Marcio was a great contractor to work with at a good price.

Marcio was WONDERFUL! He guided us through the process of choosing the best paint option for our fence. There was open communication throughout the process and flexibility in scheduling. Our end result is just as we were hoping for, a power washed and beautifully painted black fence… We will be reaching out to Marcio for all future house projects!

Excellent work installing my kitchen backsplash. Good attention to detail. They covered my floors for protection and thoroughly cleaned up when done. I will also have him do my 1/2 bath as well.

The drywall work they did in our living room was flawless. The walls are smooth, and they even helped us with some minor repairs we hadn’t noticed before. Great service and very affordable.

Questions from Winchester homeowners

Yes. Winchester is about fifteen minutes from our Wakefield base, and we work throughout town, including the older neighborhoods around Wedgemere and the town center. Call (781) 866-1835 or send the appointment form for a free in-home estimate with a written price and schedule.

Call between 8 and 9 in the morning. The town says its building, plumbing and gas, and electrical inspectors are only in the office during that hour, and their lines have no voicemail. When we manage a permitted job, we handle inspection scheduling, so you don't have to work around that window yourself.

For most interior remodels, no. The bylaw covers demolition of structures built before 1941 and lets the Historical Commission delay a demolition permit for up to 12 months. If your project involves taking down a significant part of an older house, check with the town before the design is final, and we'll help you figure out whether it applies.

Mostly prep. Detailed trim, brackets and shingles take hand scraping, repair of soft wood, priming and careful cutting in, and that's where the hours go. If the paint predates 1978, lead-safe practices apply. We look closely at the exterior during the estimate so the price reflects the real prep, not just the square footage.
