Remodeling in Boston, MA
Boston is about twenty-five to forty minutes from our Wakefield base, depending on traffic and neighborhood. Most of the work that makes sense here is inside existing homes: a condo kitchen, a bathroom in a triple-decker unit, a full repaint after years of wear. We plan city jobs around parking, building access and neighbors, because that's where city projects tend to go wrong.
For Boston homes and condos we handle kitchen and bathroom remodels, interior and exterior painting, and drywall and plaster repair, and we tell you early whether your building's association needs to sign off. Before you commit, you get a written price, a schedule and a clear answer on which Boston permit the work needs. The same crew comes each day, and any change is priced before it happens.

Short form or long form: it depends on the walls
Boston's Inspectional Services Department sorts most remodels into two permit types. A kitchen or bathroom renovation that doesn't move walls or exits generally falls under a short-form permit. Moving structural walls or egress, enlarging the room, or adding or removing a doorway or window requires a long-form permit, which takes more paperwork and review. Your design choices decide which path you're on.
That's why we ask early whether a wall really needs to move. Keeping the layout and changing everything else often gets you a new kitchen faster. Condo owners should know that self-permitting is only for owner-occupied one- and two-unit homes, so in a building with three or more units, a contractor has to apply, and your association's approval usually comes first.
Permits in Boston
Boston building permits are issued by the city's Inspectional Services Department through its online portal, with in-person help at 1010 Massachusetts Avenue. Plumbing, electrical and sheet metal permits can only be pulled by contractors holding valid Massachusetts trade licenses, and the licensed contractor must be on site for inspection. At your estimate, we tell you whether your project needs a short-form or long-form permit.

Reviews From Our Satisfied Clients
Marcio scheduled a visit to my home and we went through the renovation I was looking to have done in our master bathroom. After providing us the final estimate we scheduled demo and his team arrived promptly to start their work. They did a good job covering the bedroom items to avoid dust which helped quite a bit. During construction Marcio kept me informed the entire time and we made a couple minor changes to the scope of work without any issues… Overall, Marcio was a great contractor to work with at a good price.
Marcio was WONDERFUL! He guided us through the process of choosing the best paint option for our fence. There was open communication throughout the process and flexibility in scheduling. Our end result is just as we were hoping for, a power washed and beautifully painted black fence… We will be reaching out to Marcio for all future house projects!
Excellent work installing my kitchen backsplash. Good attention to detail. They covered my floors for protection and thoroughly cleaned up when done. I will also have him do my 1/2 bath as well.
Marcio and his team did an amazing job with our bathroom remodel! Very detailed oriented and went above and beyond! Also did a great job installing some doors for us! I highly recommend them!
The drywall work they did in our living room was flawless. The walls are smooth, and they even helped us with some minor repairs we hadn’t noticed before. Great service and very affordable.
Marcio and his team are the real deal! Super professional and quick turnaround for services provided. Will definitely do business with again in the future and will likely use them for all my remodeling needs. Thanks again MR Construction Revolutions for my bathroom remodeling.
Questions from Boston homeowners
Yes. Boston is about twenty-five to forty minutes from our Wakefield base depending on the neighborhood and the hour, and we take on kitchens, bathrooms, painting and drywall across the city. Call (781) 866-1835 or send the appointment form, and we'll come out for a free estimate with a written price.
If you're renovating within the existing room without moving walls or exits, it's generally short-form. Moving a structural wall, enlarging the kitchen or adding or closing a doorway or window pushes it to long-form, which means more review. We'll go over your plan at the estimate and tell you which one we expect, and what that means for the start date.
Only in limited cases. Boston allows homeowners to self-permit only in owner-occupied one- and two-unit homes. If your condo is in a building with three or more units, a contractor has to apply. Your condo association will probably also want to approve the work and see the contractor's insurance first.
You need to give access, but the city requires the licensed contractor to be on site for the inspection. On jobs we permit, we're there. Plumbers and electricians attend the inspections for their own permits. We coordinate the dates so you know in advance when someone needs to be let in.
