Remodeling in Medford, MA

Medford is about fifteen to twenty minutes from our Wakefield base, and its neighborhoods are very different from one another: West Medford, the Hillside near Tufts, Fulton Heights up by the Fells, Lawrence Estates, South Medford and the newer buildings around Wellington. Each brings its own kind of house, and we don't walk in assuming they all need the same thing.

Our work in Medford covers kitchen and bathroom remodels, interior and exterior painting, and drywall and plaster, from a single bathroom to a whole floor. Before any work starts, you get a written price, a schedule that accounts for Medford's permit review time, and a clear answer on what needs a permit. Once the crew starts, you know who is in your home each day, and changes are priced before they happen.

A mix of old houses and small multifamilies

Medford's farmland began to be divided into house lots in the 1840s and 1850s, and the Old Ship Street area is a historic district with many early homes. Owners of buildings with three or more units may also receive state-mandated periodic inspections.

So a Medford project might be a kitchen in a prewar single-family, a bathroom in one floor of a two-family, or a condo refresh in a newer building. In the older houses, expect walls that aren't square and paint that may contain lead. In a two-family, think about the household on the other floor: noise, shared entries and water shutoffs all need a plan before demolition day.

Permits in Medford

Medford building permits are issued by the city Building Department at City Hall, and building, plumbing and gas, and electrical applications are filed through the online portal. Contractors must register their licenses with the city, no work may begin until the permit card is issued, and the building official has up to 30 days to act on an application. Plumbing and electrical permits come from licensed trades. We plan the start date around all of this.

Reviews From Our Satisfied Clients

Marcio scheduled a visit to my home and we went through the renovation I was looking to have done in our master bathroom. After providing us the final estimate we scheduled demo and his team arrived promptly to start their work. They did a good job covering the bedroom items to avoid dust which helped quite a bit. During construction Marcio kept me informed the entire time and we made a couple minor changes to the scope of work without any issues… Overall, Marcio was a great contractor to work with at a good price.

Marcio was WONDERFUL! He guided us through the process of choosing the best paint option for our fence. There was open communication throughout the process and flexibility in scheduling. Our end result is just as we were hoping for, a power washed and beautifully painted black fence… We will be reaching out to Marcio for all future house projects!

Excellent work installing my kitchen backsplash. Good attention to detail. They covered my floors for protection and thoroughly cleaned up when done. I will also have him do my 1/2 bath as well.

The drywall work they did in our living room was flawless. The walls are smooth, and they even helped us with some minor repairs we hadn’t noticed before. Great service and very affordable.

Questions from Medford homeowners

Yes. Medford is about fifteen to twenty minutes from our Wakefield base, and we work in every part of the city, from West Medford and the Hillside to Fulton Heights, Lawrence Estates, South Medford and Wellington. Call (781) 866-1835 or send the appointment form to set up a free in-home estimate.

The city says its building official has up to 30 days to review and act on a building permit application, and no work may start until the permit card is issued. Plan for that window when you pick a start date. We file once the scope is settled, and painting or other work that doesn't need a permit can sometimes go first.

Medford says owners of properties with three or more residential units may get a Periodic Inspection Notice. It's a state-mandated inspection, mostly of common areas for safety. It's separate from any remodel permit. If a stairway or hallway needs repair or repainting before that inspection, that's work we can price and schedule.

Mostly, yes. We protect shared entries and stairways, keep loud work to set hours and give notice before any water or power shutoff the licensed trades need. Dust barriers go up before demolition. Tell us about the other household at the estimate so the schedule works for both floors.
