Remodeling in Cambridge, MA
Cambridge is about twenty-five to thirty minutes from our Wakefield base, depending on traffic. Much of the city's housing is condos carved out of older two- and three-family houses, and the rest ranges from big old single-families to newer buildings. Most of the projects that make sense here are kitchens and bathrooms inside existing units, and good paint and wall repair.
We take on kitchen and bathroom remodels, interior and exterior painting, and plaster and drywall repair in Cambridge homes of every age. Cambridge has more rules than most places we work, so we go over them at the estimate: permits, work hours, association approval and whether historic review could apply. You get a written price and a schedule that already accounts for them.

Old buildings, condo units and a lot of oversight
Local real estate shorthand calls many Cambridge listings a '2/3 family', meaning a condo in a wood-frame two- or three-family house. The city reviews changes to older buildings closely. Demolition review covers every building over 50 years old citywide, and Inspectional Services treats removing 25 percent or more of a structure as demolition. Work in historic or neighborhood conservation districts needs Cambridge Historical Commission approval.
Construction noise is regulated too. A city ordinance limits work in residential areas to 7 am to 6 pm on weekdays and 9 am to 6 pm on Saturdays, with no Sunday work without a special permit. For an interior kitchen or bath in a condo, that's rarely a problem. For a bigger renovation, scope it carefully so it doesn't cross into demolition review.
Permits in Cambridge
Cambridge building permits are issued by the city's Inspectional Services Department, filed through its online portal, and must be posted at the job site before work starts. Getting any non-ISD approvals, such as from the Historical Commission, is up to the applicant. Plumbing, gas and electrical permits are pulled by licensed trades. We explain at the estimate what your project needs and which approvals to line up first.

Reviews From Our Satisfied Clients
Marcio scheduled a visit to my home and we went through the renovation I was looking to have done in our master bathroom. After providing us the final estimate we scheduled demo and his team arrived promptly to start their work. They did a good job covering the bedroom items to avoid dust which helped quite a bit. During construction Marcio kept me informed the entire time and we made a couple minor changes to the scope of work without any issues… Overall, Marcio was a great contractor to work with at a good price.
Marcio was WONDERFUL! He guided us through the process of choosing the best paint option for our fence. There was open communication throughout the process and flexibility in scheduling. Our end result is just as we were hoping for, a power washed and beautifully painted black fence… We will be reaching out to Marcio for all future house projects!
Excellent work installing my kitchen backsplash. Good attention to detail. They covered my floors for protection and thoroughly cleaned up when done. I will also have him do my 1/2 bath as well.
Marcio and his team did an amazing job with our bathroom remodel! Very detailed oriented and went above and beyond! Also did a great job installing some doors for us! I highly recommend them!
The drywall work they did in our living room was flawless. The walls are smooth, and they even helped us with some minor repairs we hadn’t noticed before. Great service and very affordable.
Marcio and his team are the real deal! Super professional and quick turnaround for services provided. Will definitely do business with again in the future and will likely use them for all my remodeling needs. Thanks again MR Construction Revolutions for my bathroom remodeling.
Questions from Cambridge homeowners
Yes. Cambridge is about twenty-five to thirty minutes from our Wakefield base, longer at rush hour. We come out for a free estimate, look at the space and the building, and give you a written price and schedule. Call (781) 866-1835 or send the appointment form and we'll find a time.
In residential areas, the city ordinance allows construction from 7 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday and 9 am to 6 pm on Saturday, with no Sunday work without a special Police Department permit. Your condo association may set stricter hours. We plan the schedule inside both limits.
We'd advise against it. The city's own guide warns that homeowners who pull their own permit can be liable for contractors on the job and lose protection under the Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor law. It recommends having permits issued to a licensed construction supervisor. It's safer to have the contractor responsible for the work hold the permit.
Usually not for a kitchen or bathroom. Cambridge's review covers demolition of buildings over 50 years old, and Inspectional Services counts removing 25 percent or more of a structure as demolition. If your plans include taking out major walls, roof or floor area, ask the Historical Commission early. We'll help you understand whether your scope gets close.
