Remodeling in Lexington, MA

Lexington is about twenty to twenty-five minutes from our Wakefield base. It's a town with two very different architectural traditions. Around the center and East Lexington there are old colonial and later houses, and on the town's edges there are planned modernist neighborhoods from the late 1940s and 1950s. A remodel should fit whichever one you live in, and the finishes that look right in one can look wrong in the other.

We remodel kitchens and bathrooms, paint interiors and exteriors, and repair or install drywall and plaster. Design guidance is part of every job, which matters in Lexington: we'll help you choose finishes that suit a center-hall colonial or a flat-roofed modern instead of forcing the same look on both. Every estimate is free, written and comes with a schedule, and the same crew stays with the job from start to finish.

Modernist neighborhoods next to centuries-old houses

Lexington is home to several planned modernist communities. Six Moon Hill was begun in 1947 by The Architects Collaborative, the firm co-founded by Walter Gropius, with most homes built by 1953. Five Fields followed with 68 modern houses on half-acre lots, and Peacock Farm was built between 1952 and 1958 to designs by Walter Pierce. Turning Mill and Middle Ridge are also on the town's list of modernist neighborhoods.

Remodeling one of these houses is different from updating a colonial. Large windows, exposed wood ceilings and open plans are the point of the house, so a kitchen or bath should be simple and keep the sightlines. In older colonials, the challenge is the reverse: fitting a modern kitchen into smaller rooms with plaster walls and old trim worth saving, without making the new work look out of place.

Permits in Lexington

In Lexington, building permits are issued by the town's Building Office, and applications are filed through its OpenGov online permitting system. The office says building inspections requested by phone can usually be scheduled for the next business day. Any plumbing, gas or electrical permit comes from the licensed tradesperson doing that work. We tell you at the estimate which permits apply and plan the inspections into the schedule.

Reviews From Our Satisfied Clients

Marcio scheduled a visit to my home and we went through the renovation I was looking to have done in our master bathroom. After providing us the final estimate we scheduled demo and his team arrived promptly to start their work. They did a good job covering the bedroom items to avoid dust which helped quite a bit. During construction Marcio kept me informed the entire time and we made a couple minor changes to the scope of work without any issues… Overall, Marcio was a great contractor to work with at a good price.

Marcio was WONDERFUL! He guided us through the process of choosing the best paint option for our fence. There was open communication throughout the process and flexibility in scheduling. Our end result is just as we were hoping for, a power washed and beautifully painted black fence… We will be reaching out to Marcio for all future house projects!

Excellent work installing my kitchen backsplash. Good attention to detail. They covered my floors for protection and thoroughly cleaned up when done. I will also have him do my 1/2 bath as well.

The drywall work they did in our living room was flawless. The walls are smooth, and they even helped us with some minor repairs we hadn’t noticed before. Great service and very affordable.

Questions from Lexington homeowners

Yes. Lexington is about twenty to twenty-five minutes from our Wakefield base, and we work throughout town, from the center and East Lexington to the modernist neighborhoods. Call (781) 866-1835 or use the appointment form to set up a free in-home estimate with a written price and schedule.

Yes, if the design starts from the house. That usually means flat-panel cabinets, simple counters, keeping window walls clear and not boxing in exposed beams or wood ceilings. We'll talk through options and show you materials at the estimate. Some owners keep original built-ins and only replace what's worn out.

The Building Office says inspections requested by phone can usually be scheduled for the following business day, and permits are filed online. That helps keep a remodel moving. On permitted jobs, we coordinate inspections so the crew isn't waiting, and licensed plumbers and electricians book theirs for their own work.

Possibly. Lexington has a Historic Districts Commission that reviews exterior changes in its historic districts, including the Battle Green area. Interior kitchen and bath work usually isn't part of that review, but new windows, doors or exterior changes may be. Check with the town before you finalize exterior plans, and we'll build the review into the schedule.
